-
At Carol Tunney Medical, Dr. Tunney operates on a direct-pay model, meaning patients are billed directly for services she personally provides, including office visits and consultations.
As with any medical practice, additional services such as laboratory testing, imaging, or specialist referrals may be necessary. These services are typically handled outside the practice, and patients may use their health insurance for them in the usual manner.
-
Visit prices vary based on time and complexity. When you are booking an appointment, you will be told in advance the cost of the appointment. The appointment cost will not change from the price you are given at booking.
-
Not necessarily.
In NYC, urgent care visits often cost $150–$250 with insurance after copays and coinsurance. Emergency room visits can cost thousands.
A transparent fee-for-service primary care visit may be comparable — but offers:
30–60 minutes of physician time
Preventive care
Chronic disease management
Mental health support
Care coordination
Many patients find they use urgent care less often once they have consistent access to their primary care physician.
-
Yes.
In a cash pay primary care model, you pay directly for the office visit. You can still use your insurance for:
Lab tests
Imaging (X-rays, MRI, CT scans)
Specialist visits
Prescriptions
This allows you to keep catastrophic coverage while simplifying your primary care experience.
-
In traditional insurance-based primary care, visits are often limited to 10–15 minutes due to reimbursement pressures.
Longer visits allow for:
Thorough evaluation
Preventive counseling
Mental health discussion
Medication review
True care coordination
For families in Brooklyn balancing complex schedules, this depth of care can prevent unnecessary urgent care or ER visits.
-
Yes, it is possible.
Depending on your insurance coverage and your out of network benefits you may be able to submit a superbill for insurance reimbursement.
-
A superbill is a receipt provided to you by Carol Tunney Medical which includes details of the services provided to you and the amount that you paid to Carol Tunney Medical.

Excellent question. There are several reasons why patients choose to join our practice, including:
Easy access to timely appointments – Patients are typically seen within 1–2 days of requesting an appointment.
Excellent communication – Our office staff and Dr. Tunney communicate regularly and directly with patients. If you have a question or concern, you will have a direct line of contact with Dr. Tunney.
More time – All visits with Dr. Tunney are unrushed. At Carol Tunney Medical, we believe the patient–physician relationship is a cornerstone of excellent care. Building that relationship takes time—time to fully understand a patient’s health history, lifestyle, stressors, and social circumstances, all of which contribute to overall wellness. It also takes time to develop trust. As a result, our appointments are significantly longer than those offered by most primary care practices.
Continuity of care – You will see Dr. Tunney at each visit. This continuity allows her to develop a comprehensive, holistic understanding of your health over time, enabling her to better advocate for you with specialists and optimize your care.
Care coordination – We coordinate and communicate closely with other physicians involved in your care to ensure a seamless and comprehensive approach to your health.
